Mercedes-Benz Vito’s a million mile-eater for Revidge & Wilpshire
When Blackburn-based executive travel operator John Reed says the Mercedes-Benz Vito is his vehicle of choice because it will run for a million miles, he’s speaking from experience.
Mr Reed has just visited local Dealer Ciceley Commercials, where he traded in a 13-year-old Vito 111 CDI Traveliner that had clocked-up 1,030,000 miles, and replaced it with a highly-specified 2015 Vito 114 CDI Tourer Select from the latest model range.
Incredibly, Mr Reed’s business, Revidge & Wilpshire, put even more miles on an earlier Vito. “We had one a few years ago that had covered 1,250,000 miles before we finally retired it,” he recalled, “while we have another that’s done well over 700,000 and is still going strong.
“Our experience has proved that a properly maintained Vito can be relied upon to run for a million miles and more without serious trouble. In fact, there was nothing wrong with the vehicle we recently traded in – it was still reliable, solid, and in great condition inside and out, so I’d happily have sent it out for at least another year. The only reason we decided to change it now, was that Ciceley had a very smart used Vito which was available at a highly attractive price.”

Revidge & Wilpshire serves customers throughout east Lancashire and surrounding areas. Its fleet comprises four passenger-carrying Vito models, as well as a pair of Mercedes-Benz E-Class cars. All are used for corporate and private travel, including airport transfers, across the UK.
The Vito it has just stood down was brand new when Revidge & Wilpshire purchased it from Ciceley Commercials in 2006. However, the firm has also bought a number of pre-owned examples from the Dealer. The latest had just 63,000 miles on its clock, when Mr Reed received the keys.
“It’s barely run in!” he laughed. “I’ve bought several vehicles from Ciceley’s Used Van Sales Executive Graham Beckett over the years – he knows what I like in terms of specification, and always lets me know when one that fits the bill comes in. Our first new-generation Vito was too good to pass up.”
As a Tourer Select model, the latest arrival features bumpers finished in the same shade of silver as the bodywork, and stylish 16-inch alloy wheels, while the lavish interior boasts luxurious Comfort seats for the driver and up to seven passengers, air-conditioning and a fully-carpeted floor. Power, meanwhile, comes from an advanced 136 hp, 2.1-litre engine which drives the rear wheels – other Vito variants are now available with front-wheel drive.
Mr Reed has signed-up to a competitively-priced ServiceCare contract, under which routine maintenance is covered for a further 144,000 miles. Like all Mercedes-Benz vans serviced within the manufacturer’s Dealer Network, the Vito also qualifies for free, 24-hour MobiloVan emergency roadside assistance.
“Mercedes-Benz Vans promises to ‘Keep businesses moving’ – well, it’s certainly delivered in our case,” he added. “In terms of reliability over a long, high-mileage working life, the Vito has proved to be more than up to the task.

The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 continues to demonstrate what zero-emission transport can achieve, having successfully completed the legendary John O’Groats to Land’s End route in just over 24 hours — the first electric HGV to do so.
Travelling 1,378 km with only three charging stops, the journey showcased the practicality of electric power for long-distance haulage. Running solely on renewable electricity, the 39.5-tonne eActros 600 delivered a range exceeding 500 km per charge, achieved an average efficiency of 1.175 km/kWh, and prevented more than one tonne of CO₂ emissions compared to a diesel equivalent.
This achievement reinforces that electric heavy goods vehicles are already capable of meeting the demands of modern transport operations.
The challenge also supported Globe Truckers UK, helping shine a light on the wellbeing of the drivers who keep our industry moving.
