On Sunday 19th June the latest episode of Top Gear aired on BBC 1 as Paddy, Freddie and Chris took on HGV driving. It’s hard to believe that the stunning Actros Edition 2 that Chris chose to drive was in our showroom just a couple of weeks ago!
The team started the episode at Leeds East Airfield where they started learning to drive HGV trucks. After discovering their ‘Trucker names’, they competed in an HGV drag race.
A few months later, after gaining their HGV licence, they hit the road in a road trip across Britain in a DAF, Scania and our very own Mercedes-Benz Actros Edition 2.
Chris spoke about the comfort and technology in the Actros Edition 2, from Mirrorcam and the futuristic dashboard to the quietness and comfort of the truck.

The team then journeyed down to an RAF base, where to test their trucking skills they had to tow 2 helicopters through a twisty course.

The team carried on their HGV road trip across Britain whilst explaining more about trucks, including the Tachograph and driving hours, they drove through some tight and twisty roads and put their HGV skills to the test.
We’re so thrilled that the team decided to showcase these fantastic trucks and the difficulties that truck drivers face including driving through storms and around tight corners.
Just weeks ago, the Actros Edition 2 was delivered from Top Gear to our showroom in Bolton, where Diane Boag, Truck Sales Executive, handed it over to one of our long-standing customers, W&M Thompson Transport from Rufford, who first purchased a truck from us in 1973 and are this year celebrating their 50-year anniversary.
The Actros Edition 2 was only one of 19 units, of which 13 are 6×2, so it was a special purchase for the family-run business, and we were so happy to be able to hand over this magnificent truck to join their fleet.
For more information on the Actros, or any other truck or van enquiries, please contact the team.
