The UK Government has announced significant changes to the Plug-in Truck Grant (PiTrG), providing increased financial support for businesses looking to invest in zero-emission trucks and HGVs. These changes were confirmed on 6 January 2026 and take effect immediately.

What’s Changed?
The previous “small” and “large” truck categories have now been replaced with four new weight-based grant bands, offering substantially higher grant values for zero-emission vehicles.
New Plug-in Truck Grant Levels (Great Britain)
Eligible zero-emission trucks can now receive:
• Up to £20,000 for vehicles over 4.25 tonnes up to 12 tonnes
• Up to £60,000 for vehicles over 12 tonnes up to 18 tonnes
• Up to £80,000 for vehicles over 18 tonnes up to 26 tonnes
• Up to £120,000 for vehicles over 26 tonnes
Grants are capped at 40% of the vehicle’s upfront purchase price.
Who Is Eligible?
To qualify for the Plug-in Truck Grant:
• Vehicles must be zero emission at the tailpipe
• The updated grant levels apply to Great Britain only
• Northern Ireland will continue under the existing scheme:
o Up to £16,000 for small trucks
o Up to £25,000 for large trucks
Important Things to Know
• Vehicles will be re-categorised within the DVLA grant portal over the coming weeks
• The enhanced grant levels are available until 31 March 2026, after which funding levels may revert
• All grants remain subject to government review and are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis
