We are proud to announce that our Truck Sales Executive, Matt Riley, is set to run the London Marathon on April 23rd 2023 to raise money for Bolton Smiley Faces.
Matt decided to take on this challenge after, Matthew McMurray, a driver at Ciceley Commercials, sadly passed away in September 2022 at just 35 years old after a short term illness, a shock to everyone who knew him.
Matthew McMurray’s dad, Gary McMurray also works for Ciceley and has been helping to raise money for Bolton Smiley Faces, a charity close to his family’s heart.
Matthew McMurray left behind his wife Lindsey and 6 children, one of who suffers with Downs Syndrome and severe learning difficulties and Bolton Smiley Faces have been there to offer support and advice for Matthew and his family.
Matthew was an avid Bolton Wanderers fan, so Matt Riley will be running the 26.2miles in a personalised Bolton Wanderers football kit, kindly donated by Bolton Wanderers, which will be donated to the family with the finishers medal once completed.
“I met Matthew McMurray through work at Ciceley Commercials Ltd in Bolton, where I have worked for the last 11 years as a Truck Sales Executive alongside his dad Gary McMurray, our Driver Trainer. I intend to frame the kit after the marathon and donate it to Gary along with my finishers medal.
“I got a ballot place in the London Marathon 2023 shortly after the funeral so decided to do it for Bolton Smiley Faces who have supported and continue to support Matthew and his family with his son Louie.”
Bolton Smiley Faces was set up 14 years ago by Jacqui Grady, when she herself struggled to find support around the Bolton area for parents and carers of children with Downs Syndrome, like her son Ethan. Together Jacqui and Ethan explore many equal opportunity ventures together, including the Bolton Wanderers Community Football Club ‘Ability Counts’ team, for which Ethan now plays. Bolton Smiley Faces do not receive any government support so rely heavily on the support of the local area.
If you would like to show your support to Matt and the McMurray family, please follow the link below and donate via the Just Giving page.
