Adam Morgan will begin the new British Touring Car season this weekend with his new team WSR Racing.
After 11 years as one of the top independent teams in the British Touring Car Championship, Ciceley Motorsport left the series last year to take a new direction in motorsport for 2023. Russell Morgan made the difficult decision to bring the family outfit’s time in the BTCC to a close. Russell said “It’s been an incredible journey. It was a very emotional decision for me to call time on the team in its current form as Adam and I have raced as ‘dad and lad’ since he was seven years old. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Ciceley Motorsport, initially from my garage at home and later having grown into a professional race car team competing at the very highest level in the UK. Now is the time for a change, however.”
Adam secured his place in the BTCC in 2012 by winning the Ginetta GT Supercup with Ciceley Motorsport, then called Ciceley Racing. This win secured Adam a place with Speedworks Motorsport and he started his BTCC career in a Toyota Avensis. For the 2013 BTCC season, Adam returned to the family team and Ciceley Motorsport entered the touring car championship with their own Toyota Avensis. For the following season, Ciceley Motorsport developed a Mercedes-Benz A Class which they ran until 2021. For their last two BTCC seasons Ciceley Motorsport returned to a rear wheel drive car and ran the 3 Series BMWs. During Adam’s BTCC career so far, he has achieved 11 BTCC wins, secured 37 podium finishes and recorded 12 fastest laps.

Adam will join WSR this weekend and will race a BMW 330e M Sport as part of an expanded four-car line-up for the Sunbury-on-Thames organisation, which last year won an unprecedented seventh consecutive BTCC Manufacturers’ title for the German brand.
Established in 1981 by Dick Bennetts, WSR has won five British Formula Three titles, two Macau Grands Prix and several other international events before joining the BTCC in 1996. With more than 100 race wins and 350 podiums since then, as well as a victory in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WSR are firmly established as one of the UK’s leading touring-car race organisations.
Adam Morgan said: “I couldn’t be more excited to join the best team in the BTCC. Walking through their headquarters and seeing the trophies and photos on the wall of their former drivers; Senna, Hakkinen, Mansell, and the way the cars are prepared in the workshop… It’s obvious why they’ve won so much. Having raced WSR-built BMWs for the past two years, I know the car and for the first time in my career, I’ll just be focused on the driving, rather than other team jobs. With one exception, every team-mate I’ve had in the BTCC has been a rookie, so there’s always been an expectation on me, as the lead driver, to do the bulk of the set-up work. That won’t be the case at WSR and I’ll be able to learn from that to elevate myself to become the best driver I’ve ever been. I can’t wait to get started.”
Dick Bennetts, Team Principal, said: “Adam’s an excellent driver who’s proved himself capable of winning races in a variety of cars and of acting as the team leader. He’s won in the WSR-built BMW 3 Series in both 330i M Sport and hybrid 330e M Sport configurations and is liked and respected throughout the BTCC paddock. With Adam on board as the first name of what will be an extremely strong line-up, I’m confident of our ability to challenge for the Drivers’, Teams’ and Manufacturers’/Constructors’ Championships in 2023.”
As Adam enters this new chapter of his racing career, Ciceley Commercials could not be prouder and more delighted to support him by sponsoring him for the 2023 season. Make sure you tune in this weekend to support Adam and look out for the Ciceley logo on the car and Adam’s helmet.
