Mercedes-Benz Road Efficiency
For Mercedes-Benz, Road Efficiency is based on three pillars: low total costs, greater safety and maximized use. Services which increase vehicle use and enable Mercedes-Benz trucks to be even more efficient.
Low total costs
Achieving low operating costs with a focus on reduced fuel consumption is the first pillar of Road Efficiency. For example, Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to introduce the fuel-efficient Euro VI engines. Predictive Powertrain Control cruise control enables up to a further five percent saving to be made on diesel consumption.
The Actros continually reaffirms its leadership on fuel efficiency, regularly taking on competitors in fuel duels, for instance. Here the Actros takes on the role performed by a competing vehicle within a fleet for two to three weeks. In over 3100 fuel duels it has won more than 90 percent – with a consumption advantage of around 11 percent.
In conjunction with the optimised powertrain, the modified OM 470 and OM 471 engines in the Actros are able to achieve fuel savings of up to six percent. The optimised twelve-speed transmission and improved switching strategy behind Predictive Powertrain Control also contribute to the low fuel consumption. New, intelligent auxiliary consumers and further honed aerodynamics do the rest.
Trucks which are very safe benefit all road users greatly. They are also more efficient because they experience less downtime due to accidents. This is why Mercedes-Benz has been focusing for over 45 years now on developing innovative safety systems. This has included the introduction of ABS and ASR, the electronic braking system, Lane Keeping Assist, Stability Control Assist and Active Brake Assist. Mercedes-Benz is continuing this pioneering work with the enhanced Active Brake Assist 4 and new Sideguard Assist – two safety systems that provide additional support for the driver where there is a risk of collision, including with pedestrians.
The third pillar of Road Efficiency is maximized use. This has always been based on reliable, high-quality trucks and technical innovations. Development in the fields of telematics and connectivity is now once again enabling far-reaching improvements. The new service innovation Mercedes-Benz Uptime is the next step towards even greater efficiency. This innovation maximizes vehicle availability and optimises predictability, helping to enhance efficiency still further. Thanks to continual analysis of vehicle data in real time, maintenance and repair requirements can be detected at an early stage.
