Are you having problems with your clutch?

If you are, you need to know the following:

  • Replacing a clutch is a labour-intensive job because the transmission or transaxle must be separated from the engine, if you have it properly repaired.
  • Be sure to have the entire clutch system inspected when it’s disassembled to see if any additional parts need to be replaced.
  • In high-mileage vehicles, you may need to have the entire clutch assembly replaced with a kit that includes a new or remanufactured clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing – and pilot bushing if used.
  • Older vehicles with a hydraulic system, might also need to have the master cylinder and slave cylinders replaced, even if they are not leaking. If the clutch has reached the end of the road, it is possible that the rest of the system’s components are nearing the end of their service life too.
  • In low-mileage vehicles, you may only need to have the individual component that has failed replaced. If the disc in an otherwise good clutch is contaminated with oil, replacing the disc (and repairing the oil leak) should be all that’s needed to get the vehicle back on the road.
  • When having your clutch worked on watch out for poor quality, remanufactured parts. If the clutch is not remanufactured to Mercedes-Benz specifications, it may not function properly or fail prematurely.

Don’t take unnecessary risks to save a few extra pennies.
Install Mercedes-Benz genuine parts to reduce the chance of a breakdown and the
incremental costs that might incur.
