“I’m a van driver - so I’m not affected by Driver CPC”
Well ‘actually’, that might not be true!

Most people don’t think they are affected by Driver CPC legislation if they drive a van for a living. However if you have grandfather rights on your driving licence which allow you to drive up to 7.5t, you will need to undertake Driver CPC Training in order to retain this part of your licence.

Why choose Mercedes-Benz as your training provider?

What is Driver CPC?

On 10 September 2009 the drivers of goods carrying vans and trucks over 3.5 tonnes across the European Union became subject to the European Directive 2003/59/EC. To us mere mortals this means the introduction of the Driver Certificate of Competence (Driver CPC). New licence applicants are now required to take an extended test which includes Driver CPC Training, and existing vocational licence holders are now required to undertake 35 hours of periodic training each five year period thereafter to continue driving professionally. The first five year period deadline is 10 September 2014 for van and truck and 10 September 2013 for PCV.

If a driver does not have a valid Driver CPC qualification card after the 2014 deadline, it will become unlawful to drive a commercial vehicle over 3.5 tonnes GVW professionally.

A history of training excellence

Since the introduction of Driver CPC legislation, Mercedes-Benz has taken the lead in delivering top quality CPC courses throughout the UK. Already we have sold over 20,000 driver training days to users of all makes of vans, buses and trucks - but we know that there is a backlog building as take-up generally has been slow.

From one professional to another

At Mercedes-Benz we like to do things properly. We always aim to go that bit further and deliver a product that is ahead of the rest. Our training courses are about more than just reaching a legislation standard - they are designed to improve every aspect of driver professionalism. We have tried to make our courses as interactive, varied and interesting as possible but more importantly we have tried to make them enjoyable.

Go far without going far

Not only will Mercedes-Benz provide you with a higher level of training, we have also put in place a nationwide network of training facilities to ensure that there is quality on your doorstep wherever you are in the country.

A learning style that suits you

Some elements of the CPC training have to be taught in a classroom but thanks to our training facilities we can offer in-cab training as well. How much in-cab training you want is completely up to you but having this option means that with Mercedes-Benz you have far more flexibility to choose the learning style you feel suits you best.

How much?

Our Driver CPC classroom based courses are only £90 and our in-cab courses only £140, and these costs include the *DSA Registration Fee. Full details of all of our courses can be found on our website.

We don’t want to alarm you, but time is running out to complete your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. And while the cut off date to have completed your five days training isn’t until September 2014, spaces are filling up.

The next course is Driving Safety (classroom based) to be held on Wednesday 23rd May 2012.
